Balșa - Where my heart is...

Last summer, in 2012, I spent a few days in Balșa, my grandfather's village in Hunedoara county, Romania. The same day I arrived there, was the day I received my Canon 7D, so you can imagine that I took tons of pictures ;). I will make a separate post with some of them sometime in the near future, but that's not purpose of this post.

What I wanna talk about now, is the video capabilities of this camera, the 7D. Better said, some tips on using it. As I had it only for two days at the time I took this video (please see below), I did not knew much about it. So the result might not be as good as you'd expect, but it ain't that bad either! So what do you need to know? What's foremost important it a freaking tripod, otherwise will be shaking the camera like there's a freaking earthquake. I had no idea what it's like to film with a DSLR camera and was thinking that the video files will be out of this world (Transformers like) in terms of quality. But that's not true. The compression method ruins the quality a bit (and the output file is quite big, don't know why though) and one requires special software to bring it back to "life". Please don't think that I'm saying that it's worse. No. It quite good! But not cinema good ;). Zooming while filming is not a good idea, even with a tripod. I learned that the hard way. The options you have at hand within the camera are just a few. Sound recording can be set on auto or manual, though I never used it on manual. No auto focus so, before pressing record, be sure to focus on your subject and then switch to manual focus (if your lens is not equipped with USM technology) if you're gonna focus on something else closer or farther. The other functions were covered in so many reviews so I'm not gonna cover them also: exposure, aperture and ISO. Live with that.
So if you're curious enough, please watch below video (HD is a must), the first I've made with the 7D.
The lens I used is a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8, the one without stabilization.

Enjoy, comment, share, rate, subscribe, tweet, like, recommend, + it and all that crap!

Thanks!
